Promote your iOS app with Smart App Banners
Category: iOS / Posted on 3rd September 2014
We recently came across Smart App banners for iOS and thought we would share our experience.
What are they?
A Smart App Banner provides a standardised way for you to promote your app from a website.
They are very easy to implement. Simply add the below meta tag within the head section of your website:-
<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=myAppStoreID" />
You can also pass data to your app, by adding the "app-argument" parameter.
<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=myAppStoreID,
The "app-argument" parameter allows you to specify where you would like the user to be directed upon opening your app.
For instance, if a user is viewing the about page on your website, you could pass "about/" as the app-argument parameter.
Incorporating the "application:openURL:sourceApplication:annotation:" method within your app delegate and writing some code would then allow you to redirect them to the about screen within your app.
More details on Smart App Banners can be found on the Apple website:-
We've seen a marked improvement in app downloads since introducing this feature. We'd urge you to consider implementing this on your website to help streamline the process between your iOS app and website.
